Eastern Shore of Virginia

 

The Eastern Shore of Virginia consists of two counties (Accomack County, Virginia and Northampton County, Virginia) on the Atlantic coast of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. The region is part of the Delmarva Peninsula and is separated from the rest of Virginia by the Chesapeake Bay.

Hill, Wendell move on to state Hoop Shoot finals

Two Broadwater Academy students recently won the Southeast District Hoop Shoot sponsored by the Virginia Elks. They will move on to state competition this weekend in Charlottesville. Katelyn Hill, the daughter of Mark and Tammy Hill of Onley, won the district 10- and 11-year-old competition. Katie Wendell, the daughter of Kim Starr and Frank Wendell of Northampton County, on the contest for the 12- and 13-year-old group. -- delmarvanow.com

Register for youth hoops

The Chincoteague High School Athletic Boosters will be holding registration for the upcoming Youth Basketball League season. Anyone interested in signing up may do so at the Hampton Inn Dec. 12-19 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The league is open to all children ages 5 to 15 years of age. The cost is $25 per child or $35 per family. -- delmarvanow.com

 

Thanksgiving Hoop Tourney is Nov. 28

The 18th annual Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament will be held Nov. 28 at Northampton Middle School. The event is open to the public. There is a $3 admission charge at the door. Teams will vie for first and second place trophies. There will be an MVP selected at the end of the tournament. Teams can enter the competition for $150 per team with 10 players per team. Players must be at least 16 years of age or older to participate. The first game will begin at 8 a.m. and play will continue until a champion is crowned. Register for youth basketball by Nov. 21

The Accomack County Parks and Recreation Department's youth basketball league is holding registration. Forms are available at the department's office in Accomac Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration fee is $20 for ages 6-8 and $25 for ages 9-12 and 13-15. Men's basketball league to begin

The Accomack County Parks and Recreation Department is opening registration for its Men's Basketball League. Anyone interested in placing a team in the league should contact the Parks and Recreation office at 757-787-3900 or 757-824-0314. -- delmarvanow.com

 

 

Registration open for basketball

The 2009 Northampton County Parks and Recreation (NCPR) are pushing back its 2009 Men and Women's basketball league to Monday, Nov. 30, at the former Northampton Middle School gymnasium. Games will be played Monday and Wednesday nights beginning at 6:30pm. Team registration for both leagues is currently open. All interested teams must fill out a coach's packet which includes: one coach's agreement, one roster form, 15 player waivers and a league fee of $300. All coach's packet and league fees are due to the NCPR director no later than Monday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. For information, contact the NCPR office at 757-678-0468, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- delmarvanow.com

 

Ebenezer Baptist to host tourney

Ebenezer Baptist Church with Pastor Milton P. Bunting will sponsor a Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19. The tournament will be held at Northampton Middle School and will begin at 8:30 a.m. Admission is $5 for adults and children over 10 years of age. Those 10 and under are free. The men's division of the tournament is for ages 18 and up. Men's teams can register for the tournament for $200 per team. Youth 13 to 17 can register for $100 per team. Team fees are due by Sept. 5. The first 10 teams to register will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament. There will be six men's teams and four youth teams with double elimination. Teams can have up to 12 players on the roster.
